LEARN MORE

As we head into our 100th year, we are seeking business sponsors to support our Youth Empowerment focus in Reading.

Since 1923, the Junior League of Reading has worked to improve the quality of life in the Greater Reading Area. We are a diverse organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact. Membership in the League provides the opportunity to strengthen our leadership skills and develop our abilities to help us as we serve our community.

The volunteers of the Junior League of Reading are focused on Youth Empowerment by creating, improving, and expanding the resources and opportunities available for their growth, development and overall welfare, so they can become stewards of leadership in their communities. We believe that through empowering youth, we can act as catalysts for lasting community change.

Through the efforts of our dedicated membership, we have been successful fostering partnerships with organizations like Olivet Boys and Girls Club, VOiCEup Berks, Girls on the Run, Opportunity House, and CONCERN for Kids.

We are immensely proud of our annual Young Women’s Summit, which is a two-weekend program for 6th and 7th grade girls, curated and facilitated entirely by our volunteers. During their time at Young Women’s Summit, participants learn about connecting with themselves, each other, and their community. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, thoughtful discussions, and fun social interactions, the young women always leave feeling empowered with their new skills.

The Summit culminates with several service learning projects that they then present to representatives from local non-profits. Past years, recipients have included Safe Berks, Animal Rescue League, Mary’s Shelter, Veterans Making a Difference, LGBT Center of Greater Reading, Helping Harvest, and many others. Your support of the Junior League of Reading will help us to continue these efforts and do even more.

In the 2023-2024 league year, we plan to continue to expand our current programs emphasizing service learning and youth empowerment. We will also host our annual Thanksgiving celebration at Olivet, Educational Event focused on Menstrual Equity, and beloved Touch-A-Truck. This community event offers opportunities for children to climb inside trucks and vehicles of all kinds while interacting with community helpers and local businesspeople who lend their support. Additional vendors and activities for the whole family always offer a fun day! Furthermore, JLR will continue to develop opportunities for leadership training to our members with a special emphasis on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, as we incorporate this knowledge for continued improvement in recruitment and member retention, while ensuring our programming content remains current. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities.

Please consider becoming a Sponsor to enable JLR to continue this important work in our community. For more information, please contact president@jlreading.org. We look forward to sharing more good news in the year ahead made possible by the collective generosity of people like you.
